IBM Mobile Identity Meets Marist College
Face it, everyone carries their phones with them. Whether its in your pocket, a purse, or even a backpack, we don’t leave our homes without it; but what if that’s all you ever had to carry? What if everything you needed, your license, reward cards, membership cards, were all within hands reach on your mobile device? Well, IBM Mobile Identity does just that. It embraces the digital evolution by making digital identity the center of your identity.
Recently, IBM conducted a pilot with Marist College to evaluate how the new Mobile Identity application can help provide students with faster results when needing identification in contrast to their Marist cards. Traditionally, the students rely heavily on their school cards for a number of things like entrance, participation, and payments. If ever that card is lost it can be highly stressful to retrieve a new one when working around the hours of their school’s card services department.
During the pilot, students volunteered to receive the Mobile Identity app on their mobile devices and were asked to use the app instead of their Marist card to sign in to their weekly Computer Society meeting. While half the club did not receive the MI app, both sets of students stood side by side to mark their attendance for club participation. The students using the MI app filed in and out of the meeting quickly and efficiently in contrast to those without the app. The pilot marked a huge success in both the feedback from the students and in proving the functionality of the MI app. It revealed that students have a preference for mobile card services over their traditional plastic cards primarily for the convenience that mobile devices bring.
