Holly is moving into a new apartment within the Des Moines, IA area. Holly uses IBM Mobile Identity and has her mobile Iowa driver’s license and medical insurance card stored in her Identity Wallet (the MI Owner App). Holly decides to update her electric service first and contacts MidAmerican Energy by phone to arrange for the service termination and addition at her new address. MidAmerican Energy updates Holly’s information within its system. Because MidAmerican Energy is a participant in a trusted digital identity business network based on blockchain technology, the change of address for Holly is visible to all other parties participating in the business network, including the Iowa DMV.
Win-Win for All Parties
As a collaborating member within the business network, the DMV trusts the attestations that MidAmerican Energy has made about Holly because there is a certified auditable entry in the blockchain ledger by a reliable network member. Upon receipt of an address change event for Holly, the Iowa DMV issues an update to its own internal system with the new address and generates a new digital license for Holly. The new license is immediately sent to Holly’s mobile device. Within seconds of Holly hanging up the phone with MidAmerican Energy, an updated mobile driver’s license is delivered to her smartphone. The same update can occur for her medical insurance card as well.
